For a second time in two months, the U.S. men's national team and Mexico are vying for a Concacaf trophy.

On June 6 it was the inaugural Nations League title, won by the U.S. in an extra-time thriller. Now a different cast of U.S. players is hoping to defeat a more experienced group of El Tri counterparts in the 2021 Gold Cup final. Sunday's match in Las Vegas represents a chance for the U.S. to also close the gap in the all-time title race, with Mexico entering with a record eight Gold Cup titles and the U.S. having six. Only Canada (2000) has broken the regional duopoly in the competition's history.

Mexico enters with a more accomplished group and appeared to be coasting to the final after a 3–0 rout of Honduras in the quarterfinals, but a shorthanded and valiant Canada side took El Tri to the wire before Hector Herrera punched Mexico's ticket to the final in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

The U.S. has left it late recently as well, with Matthew Hoppe and Gyasi Zardes scoring in the 83rd and 86th minutes, respectively, in each of the U.S.'s knockout wins.

The most recent final meeting between the U.S. and Mexico was two years ago at Chicago's Soldier Field, where Jonathan dos Santos's sensational goal was the difference in a 1–0 Mexico win.

The U.S. made four changes to its starting lineup from the groups that started vs. Jamaica and Qatar in the previous two rounds, with Reggie Cannon, George Bello, Eryk Williamson and Zardes coming in to replace Shaq Moore, Sam Vines, Gianluca Busio and Daryl Dike.

Stay tuned here for live updates and highlights of goals and key plays from throughout the match (refresh for most recent updates).

Here are the lineups for both sides:

NBA free agency is scheduled to begin Monday at 6 p.m. ET but ahead of the frenzy multiple star players have elected to decline their player options and hit the market. Most notably, Clippers star Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard declined his $36 million player option, per Yahoo Sports's Chris Haynes, and later confirmed by ESPN. Leonard will hit free agency this offseason but is expected to re-sign with the Clippers and negotiate a new deal.

Leonard, 30, had offseason surgery on a partially torn ACL that sidelined him during the second half of his team's playoff run and is looking for some new money.

He's eligible for a salary worth 35% of the salary cap, or $39 million, and could earn $175 million in the next four years, per Yahoo Sports. Leonard averaged 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game last season and was named to his third All-NBA first team.

Here's a few more players who will be joining him in the free agent pool:

  • Suns point guard Chris Paul is declining his $44.2 million player option for the 2021–22 season and will enter free agency this offseason, per The Athletic's Shams Charania
  • There's optimism that Paul will reach an agreement with the Suns on a new deal by Monday night, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski
  • The Grizzlies declined Justice Winslow's $13 million team option and he will enter free agency, according to The Athletic.
  • The Heat are declining Andre Igoudala's $15 million team option according to ESPN, and picked up Goran Dragić's $19.4 million team option.

For the seventh time in Gold Cup history, the U.S. men's national team will face off against Mexico in the final, less than two months after the Concacaf giants met in the Nations League final.

In that stunning 3-2 extra-time thriller, Christian Pulisic scored the penalty-kick winner in the 114th minute after goals from Gio Reyna and Weston McKennie. But while the U.S. haven't had its heralded young trio available for Gold Cup, Gregg Berhalter's side has fared well on its road to the final.

The USMNT has been perfect through its Gold Cup run, although the side has left it until late in both of its 1–0 knockout wins. Against Jamaica in the quarterfinals, the U.S. waited until an 83rd-minute winner from Schalke's Matthew Hoppe before Thursday's semifinal win against Qatar, courtesy of Gyasi Zardes's goal in the 86th minute.

Mexico, meanwhile, overcame a scoreless draw with Trinidad and Tobago in its opening game to win the next four matches. El Tri cruised in a 3–0 quarterfinal win against Honduras before notching a dramatic match-winner in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time against Canada in the semis.

In the 2019 Gold Cup final, Mexico edged past the U.S. thanks to a 73rd-minute goal from Jonathan dos Santos. The USMNT last won the Gold Cup in 2017 with a win over Jamaica.

Report: Heat decline Andre Iguodala's $15M team option, retain Goran Dragić's option

The Heat declined the $15 million team option on the forward, but picked up Dragić's $19.4 team option for the 2021–22 season.

Andre Iguodala is heading to free agency.

The Heat are declining the 17-year veteran's $15 million team option according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Miami has also picked up Goran Dragić's $19.4 team option for the 2021–22 season.

By declining Iguodala's option, the Heat created salary cap space for the upcoming free agency period, set to begin on Monday.

Iguodala, 37, has played with Miami since 2020 after a three-team trade sent the 2015 Finals MVP from the Grizzlies to the Heat. He agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract extension that included a team option in 2021. Last season, Iguodala averaged 4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

According to Wojnarowski, Dragić's deal could possibly precede a sign-and-trade deal that would include him and Toronto's Kyle Lowry.

Dragić, 35, has been a staple in the Miami franchise since 2015, though he struggled with injury throughout the 2020–21 season. In the first-round postseason loss to the Bucks, he averaged 16 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds.
